Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Mr Shane Parnell reflects on a busy Term 1!
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of the term, I reflect on what has been a very energetic and productive start to the year. We began with a clear message for our students: “Be Present. Be Engaged. Be Your Best.”
A key part of this focus has been the introduction of new rules around the use of mobile phones, wearable devices and headphones at school. By reducing the temptation for students to access their phones whilst on school grounds, we have seen a positive change in how students interact with one another and with staff. It has been wonderful to see students arrive each morning smiling, attentive and ready to engage in learning. In the afternoons, students are increasingly conversing with each other rather than being distracted by devices.
While we have needed to remind some students about appropriate phone use, particularly at the canteen and while waiting for buses, the considered and pastoral approach we have taken has resulted in most students adapting easily to these expectations. This has also been evident in students responsibly checking their phones after school to confirm pick up or travel arrangements before putting them away.
Now that students have had a full term to adjust, we expect these routines to be well established in Term 2, with fewer reminders required.
Over the past few weeks, we have also reminded students about our behaviour expectations and the importance of modelling our school values through positive interactions and active engagement. These reminders are sometimes necessary toward the end of a term as students become tired and look ahead to school holidays. I ask all parents and carers to reinforce these expectations at home. I look forward to all students returning in Term 2 refreshed and renewed in their commitment to upholding our values and demonstrating the behaviours we expect of a Frederick Irwin student.
I wish all staff, students and families a wonderful Easter break and pray for a safe and happy holiday period. I look forward to welcoming everyone back, ready for an exciting Term 2.
God Bless
Mr Shane Parnell
Deputy Principal
Positive Outcomes from Secondary Toilet Use Changes
We are pleased to share that recent changes to toilet usage arrangements across the Secondary campus are having a very positive impact. Staff have noted a reduction in behavioural issues, vandalism and time spent out of class, leading to calmer learning spaces. Teachers are also reporting increased student engagement and improved focus in lessons, supporting both learning and wellbeing. We will continue to monitor these arrangements to ensure they best support our students.
Secondary Reminder: Safe Afternoon Collection – Please Use Kiss and Drop
To help keep our students safe and traffic flowing smoothly at the end of the school day, we remind families to use the designated Kiss and Drop area for student collection.
Recently, staff have observed some students entering vehicles that are stopped in the traffic queue either within the school grounds or along Gordon Road. This practice is unsafe and creates unnecessary risk for students, and pedestrians.
We ask parents and carers to:
- Use the Kiss and Drop zone whenever possible
- Remind children not to enter cars that are stopped in traffic lines
- Follow directions from staff on duty, who are there to support student safety
Your cooperation helps ensure a safer, quicker, and more orderly pickup process for everyone in our community. Thank you for your continued support.
School Events and Activities
The Wonga Bonnoo ('Talking Stick')
The School Newsletter, The Wonga Bonnoo ('Talking Stick') was selected from a parent poll in 2022, and alongside consultation with local elder, George Walley.
George has a well-known profile in the Mandurah region, and has worked alongside the School for years. George has helped name the Kwobadiny Sports Centre and the Yarning Circle at Halls Head, assisted our Reconciliation Plan Working Group, led smoking ceremony and cultural workshops for staff, as well as inviting Executive and Council members onto a Cultural Tour around Mandurah.
The School recognises a commitment to continuing community and local relationships.
A Night of Celebration, 1991-2026
Our 35th Celebration, combined with our first-ever 30th Reunion, was a truly memorable occasion, proudly welcoming Alumni from the Class of 1996 alongside students from our 1991 Foundation Class.
The evening included a wonderful speech by AngliSchools CEO Reverend Peter Laurence OAM speak alongside the Principal Reverend Tracey Gray and Foundation Head Boy, Justin Bettridge, sharing reflections that highlighted the School's history and community.
Guests enjoyed reconnecting with former staff, members of Council, alongside Foundation Principal, Mr Geoffrey Arnold, while soaking up the atmosphere and reminiscing over shared memories. The evening was perfectly complemented by live entertainment from local band Hello Stranger, fronted by Alumni from Class of 2023, Dayna Draper—bringing the celebration full circle.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this outstanding milestone event.

Harmony Day 2026
We celebrated Harmony Day this year with splashes of orange across our campuses!
Our students showed support for Harmony Week by wearing orange on Friday 20 March, and enjoyed various activities in class that reflected how we integrate diversity into our classrooms every single day.
Thank you to everyone who participated!

Coastal Warriors Student Volunteers
Well done to Mr Kerr-Wilson and our student volunteers!
A big well-done to Tomasso Sewell (Year 12), Chiara Sewell (Year 9), Scarlett Kettle (Year 8) and Mr Kerr-Wilson for their efforts at the Coastal Waste Warriors beach clean up day.
We love to see our students out in acts of service for the community!
Senior School ACC Championship Basketball Competition
Our inaugural year in the Senior School ACC Championship Basketball Competition has been an exciting and rewarding experience for the FIAS teams. With both a boys’ and girls’ team representing the School, students participated in five competitive games, travelling to Perth schools as well as hosting matches in the Kwobadiny Sports Centre.
Across the season, both teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination. The boys’ team finished with two impressive wins and a hard fought draw against Kennedy Baptist College, demonstrating a high level of skill and resilience in every game.
The girls’ team secured one victory and competed with maximum effort and dedication throughout the competition, including a down to the wire finish against All Saints College.
Coaches from both teams have expressed how proud they are of the students’ efforts, attitude and representation of the School.
Their commitment to games and training by all students has made this a memorable beginning to what promises to be a fantastic ongoing competition.
It was the perfect start to our inaugural ACC Championship season, and we look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.

2026 New Swimming Records Set!
There were also many new records set at this years Inter-House Swimming Carnival. Any record broken is a special achievement and should be celebrated.
I would like to make mention of some extra special ones:
- Charlotte Vreeken in Year 11 broke two longstanding records. One in the 50m freestyle (previously Grace Walton form 2017) and one in the 50m Butterfly, eclipsing Melissa Palmers record from 2013.
- Hitomi Cording in Year 12 broke Amy Branson’s time from 2008 in the Butterfly.
- Jean-Pierre Roux in Year 9 outdid the 2006 record for the 50m.
- The Maley name continued to shine with Megan knocking off another of Melissa Palmer’s records in the 50m backstroke.
- Younger sister Kate set a special record in the yr9 50m freestyle knocking off the previous record set by Megan two years ago.
Congratulations to all of the record breakers!

ACC Secondary Swimming Carnival
The Senior School ACC Swimming Carnival was a successful and memorable day for Frederick Irwin, with our students show casing their swimming talent against strong competition at Perth HPC.
Competing in ‘C’ Division (Divisions go from ‘A’ to ‘J’), our team of 48 students, supported by 4 members of staff, demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, resilience, and pride in representing Frederick Irwin on such a large stage.
Throughout the day, our swimmers delivered outstanding performances in both individual and team events, consistently meeting and exceeding expectations. Their hard work and commitment were reflected in the results, with Frederick Irwin finishing an impressive 2nd overall for the carnival. This is an improvement from 5th in 2025. We had a number of standout individual performances — a testament to their dedication, preparation, and competitive spirit.

FIAS Dominates Have Sum Fun – A Clean Sweep of the Peel Region!
Across three electrifying Fridays in March, 47 FIAS students brought their A-game to the Have Sum Fun competitions — and the results were nothing short of extraordinary.
With 17 Year 11 & 12s, 11 Year 9 & 10s, and 18 Year 7 & 8s competing across three venues — FIAS (home ground advantage!), MCC, and Rockingham Senior High School — our teams showed determination, teamwork, and razor-sharp problem-solving under pressure.
The Results Speak for Themselves:
- Year 11 & 12: 1st Place & 4th Place
- Year 9 & 10: 1st Place & 4th Place
- Year 7 & 8: 1st Place & 3rd Place
That’s right — FIAS claimed ALL THREE Peel Region shields!
From intense debate over tricky problems to racing the clock with pens flying, our students demonstrated what it truly means to think like mathematicians. Each team showed resilience, collaboration, and a competitive spirit that lifted the energy in every room.
This wasn’t just success — it was dominance.
A huge shout out to the Mathematics Department for their commitment behind the scenes — running lunchtime training sessions, preparing students for the challenge, and showing up on the nights to host and support teams across all venues. This victory is as much yours as it is the students’.
A massive congratulations to all 47 competitors for representing FIAS with pride and excellence.
Peel Region — consider it conquered.

Pancake Races!
Written by Chapel Prefect, Kaitlyn Du Toit
At Frederick Irwin Anglican School, Pancake Day involved the whole school coming together for the Pancake Race, where students from each year group competed in a relay, racing to the end as fast as they could while flipping pancakes.
The entire school gathered to take part and cheer on their fellow students. In the end, it was Ellis House who took home the victory, coming out on top after a day of fun competition. It was a fantastic day full of energy and House spirit, and a great way for the whole school community to come together and mark the occasion.
-------------
Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, falls on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and is the last day before Lent begins. Lent is a 40-day period in the Christian calendar where people traditionally fast and give up rich foods like eggs, butter, and milk. To use these ingredients up before the fast, people began making pancakes, which is how the tradition started.
Basketball Finals Weeks!
Congratulations to all of our amazing basketball players this year, we have has another amazing season across the board.
Well done especially to those teams who progressed into finals.
- FIAS Panthers (Year 8 girls, coached by Hannah Chatfield) won their Grand Final 17-13.
- FIAS Bench Warmers (Alumni team) won their Grand Final 36-21.
Our last Grand Final... after a very close first half, the FIAS Hurricanes blew away the opposition in the second half to have a convincing win 24-14. A great game to watch to see the girls so supportive and happy for each other.
Thanks to all the supporters who came along and cheered our FIAS teams.

Year 10 Marine Science visit to AQWA
Students were encouraged to become career curious about marine pathways and gained insider knowledge of the day-to-day roles and responsibilities of professional aquarists, marine scientists, and tour guides through AQWA’s Marine Science & Tourism Career Taster Program (CTP).
The program was designed to support career-curious Year 10 students interested in aquaculture, environmental science, or marine tourism.
The full-day (5-hour) program allowed students to explored future career options and experienced authentic workplace environments. It aimed to inspire students who had demonstrated an interest in marine science, aquaculture, zoology, tourism, and related fields.
Participants gained valuable insights into the roles, requirements, challenges, and rewards of working with animals and engaging with the public within a major aquarium and tourist attraction. The program included a tailored series of presentations, hands-on activities, and interactive sessions with marine industry specialists.
Students participated in industry-led experiences and activities that introduced them to diverse career pathways and employment opportunities within the marine and tourism sectors.
Years 3 to 6 Inter-House Swimming Carnival - Meadow Springs Campus
On Tuesday 10 March the Meadow Springs Campus held their Years 3-6 Inter-House Swimming Carnival, and what a fantastic day it was!
The students had an absolute blast and demonstrated incredible House spirit and enthusiasm throughout the day. Students represented the School with pride as they competed, cheered on their peers, and gave each event their best effort.
A big congratulations to Barrett House, who took out Champion House, and to Gordon House, who were awarded the Spirit Award for their outstanding encouragement and positive support across the day.

A big thank you also goes to our parent community, who came out to support in the heat and helped create such a fun and positive atmosphere.
