Unveiling the Refreshed Brewster Model Messaging
Brewster Academy Head of School Kristy Kerin and Director of Marketing Amanda Welsh recently presented to faculty the culmination of an important project: refining The Brewster Model® messaging. This project aimed to create a more cohesive and concise way of describing Brewster Academy's unique educational approach, a cornerstone of the school’s identity for more than 30 years.
As part of this project, Ms. Kerin and Ms. Welsh unveiled a new infographic centered on the mnemonic THRIVE, which distills the key elements of The Brewster Model into a simple, memorable framework. The acronym THRIVE stands for:
- Team-based and collaborative teaching and learning.
- Honoring diverse thinkers and cultivating joyful learning.
- Real-world experiences and global perspectives.
- Intentionally designed to serve each student’s individual needs.
- Varied and expansive to accommodate each student’s interests and goals.
- Expertly grounded in best practices, continually improving.
You can see the refreshed Brewster Model® webpage here.
“Our school has evolved and expanded in many wonderful ways, and it was time to take a step back to look at the venerable Model that has served us so well, and refresh the language we use to share it with our families and the world,” said Head of School Kristy Kerin. In other words, as Brewster continues to evolve, so does the way we communicate about The Brewster Model that is at the core of how we deliver education.
One of the primary goals of this initiative was to make The Brewster Model simple to understand and communicate, particularly to prospective students, parents, and educational consultants who may not be familiar with our unique approach. Additionally, the project provides a straightforward narrative for internal use, equipping faculty and staff with consistent language to convey what makes Brewster unique.
“We found that while everyone deeply values and believes in The Brewster Model’s unique approach to learning, there were slight variations in how it was described,” says Ms. Welsh. “This project was a labor of love for our team, reaffirming something we’ve always known: The Brewster Model’s success speaks for itself, and its impact continues to grow globally through our expanding campuses in Spain.”
The new messaging platform is also a valuable resource for onboarding new faculty and explaining Brewster’s academic approach to donors and partners. The refreshed framework aligns with Brewster's mission to create student-centered, innovative learning environments that prepare students for college and life beyond, inspiring all involved in the Brewster community.
Ms. Kerin and Ms. Welsh emphasized that The Brewster Model is not only about academic rigor, but also about creating a joyful learning experience that honors each student's individual strengths and learning styles. By aligning these messages under the THRIVE mnemonic, the school now has a more powerful and unified way to explain how it supports students' success and growth.
“You’ll begin seeing the new graphic and text in Brewster’s communications materials to ensure that all messaging around The Brewster Model is clear, consistent, and aligned with Brewster's vision and values,” Ms. Welsh explained. “And the work done by the team on this project underscores something that the Brewster community is very proud of…a commitment to continually improving and staying at the forefront of innovative, student-centered learning.”
